Welcome
On behalf of the program committee, Seth and I want to invite everybody to the 72nd Annual Meeting at the Intercontinental at the Wharf in Washington DC. The Wharf is Washington's newest waterfront attraction, boasting many restaurants and shops and will surely make a great backdrop for our annual meeting.
Attendees will have the pleasure of hearing from our two keynote speakers; Dr. Joseph Bosco and Dr. Robert Ostrum. Dr. Bosco is the Vice President of the AAOS and practices at the NYU Langone Medical Center. He will lecture on the future direction of the AAOS and the field of orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Ostrum is practicing academic orthopaedic trauma at the University of North Carolina and will lecture on everything you thought you knew about ankle fractures.
The focus of the meeting will include various areas of interest applicable to surgeons across the state of Virginia in general practice with specific attention to sports medicine and trauma. This will include debates on ACL reconstruction versus repair, long versus short nails for intertrochanteric hip fractures and foot and ankle symposium on common ankle fractures and their preferred treatment. Other topics include the use of PRP in clinical orthopaedics, the role of ASCs in outpatient total joint and spine surgery, and a talk on millennials in the workplace.
The 3rd Annual Resident Quiz Bowl should provide for a spirited competition between residents representing the Naval Training Program in Portsmouth, the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Currently Las Vegas has UVA as a slight favorite to defend their title from last year.
Plan to attend this year's 72nd Annual Meeting May 3-5, 2019. We thank all the participants and sponsors in advance for their effort ad support of this year's meeting. It is always our goal to bring the best of what Virginia orthopaedists have to our membership and beyond.
Sincerely,
