On behalf of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society program committee, we would like in invite you to the 73rd Annual Meeting May 15-17, 2020 at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront. The Virginia Beach Oceanfront is an exciting venue for this year’s event with something for everyone. Participants can enjoy everything from a vast variety of restaurants, countless shops, top golf courses, and beautiful beaches.
We are honored to welcome Dr. Gerald Williams, past president of AAOS, as our key note speaker. Dr. Williams is a shoulder specialist from the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia where he is the chief of the shoulder and elbow surgery division. In addition to sharing his experience into the complex management of glenoid bone loss in shoulder arthroplasty, Dr. Williams will provide insight to our audience on happenings at the national level at AAOS and future directions of orthopaedics, specifically female surgeon engagement.
The program for this year’s conference is comprehensive and practical for orthopaedic surgeons, physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, and athletic trainers of all subspecialties. In addition to abstracts and poster presentations from the Commonwealth’s top researchers, scheduled podium presentations include war wound management, minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, distal radius fractures, and sagittal balance issues. Additional topics include team physician responsibilities, total ankle replacement, tennis elbow, thoracic outlet syndrome, orthopaedic billing and coding, multimodal pain control after total joint surgery, and magnetic growing rods for limb lengthening.
We are excited to bring back a breakout session for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and athletic trainers. Topics for presentation include: the use of athletic trainers in the office setting, fibromyalgia in orthopaedics, DVT prophylaxis update, and outpatient work up for suspected total joint infection.
The Annual Resident Quiz Bowl will continue the tradition of friendly and spirited competition between the programs at the Naval Training Program in Portsmouth, the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and Virginia commonwealth University in Richmond. Be sure to be there for action!!
We look forward to connecting with you May 15-17, 2020 in Virginia Beach. We think you will find this year’s program to be exciting and clinically relevant.
See you at the Beach!!
