On behalf of the program committee, Dr. Duensing and I look forward to seeing everyone at the 77th Annual Meeting of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society! We are excited to be hosting the meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Tysons Corner from May 3-5, 2024.
Attendees will have the pleasure of hearing from our two keynote speakers. We welcome Dr. Andrew Pollak, current Chief Clinical Officer at the University of Maryland Medical System. Dr. Pollak has previously served as the James Lawrence Kernan Professor and chair of the Department of Orthopaedics, as well as past president of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the Maryland Orthopaedic Association. We look forward to hearing his keynote lecture focused on healthcare delivery, healthcare policy, and financial models. Our second keynote speaker is Dr. Ned Amendola, Virginia Flowers Baker Distinguished Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Division Chief for Sports Medicine and former Chief Medical Officer at Duke University. He will speak about the current and future directions of the AAOS and the changing landscape in Orthopaedics followed by a presentation on syndesmotic injuries in athletes.
This meeting is an excellent opportunity to showcase our local and regional scientific presentations, connect with colleagues and friends, and demonstrate our commitment to education. The focus of the meeting will include various areas of interest applicable to orthopaedic surgeons across the Commonwealth of Virginia. A concerted effort was made to create a comprehensive program that covers topics spanning all subspecialties. We will continue our tradition of the Annual Resident Quiz Bowl, engaging the resident physicians representing our local academic programs.
Abstract submission is now closed. We had over one hundred quality abstracts submitted and we thank those members who have participated. Abstract presentations will be held at the start of the general session both Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5 while others will be chosen as posters which will be presented on Friday, May 3.
We thank all the participants and sponsors in advance for their efforts and support of this year’s upcoming meeting. Our goal remains unchanged – to bring state of the art education to the Orthopaedic community in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We’re looking forward to a great meeting for all!
Sincerely,
Avi Goch, MD Ian Duensing, MD
