The 67th Annual Virginia Orthopedic Society meeting will be held at the historic Hotel Roanoke May 2-4, 2014. An excellent educational program is planned, including an update from AAOS President-Elect Dr. Fred Azar. Keynote speaker Dr. Giles Scuderi of the ISK Institute will present the latest information on total knee replacement. We will have presentations on deformity correction using the Taylor Spatial Frame, hip arthroscopy and femoroacetabular impingement as well. We will receive updates on perioperative management including cardiac stents and anticoagulants, and regional anesthesia. A workshop on the use of ultrasound in orthopedic practice will be available. All this, in addition to the usual interesting array of papers and posters, should make for a great opportunity to learn what colleagues and thought leaders are thinking about our specialty, while reconnecting with old friends and colleagues in a relaxed setting.

A social program will be planned for spouses and other guests. The weather should be very pleasant that time of the year, and the Roanoke area is well known for diverse outdoor activities. Attendees should plan on golfing, hiking, biking, or even kayaking while in the area. A short walk leads to Downtown Roanoke with an array of shops and unique dining experiences. We hope to see everyone in scenic western Virginia for a memorable meeting experience.

2014 Annual Meeting Co-Chairs

Trevor M. Owen, MD is originally from the mountains of California. He competed medical school at Tulane Medical School, and his orthopaeidc surgery residency at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans.  His time in New Orleans was followed by a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma at Harvard Medical School and spent time with the International Center for Limb Lengthening in Baltimore, MD. Currently works with Carilion Clinic Orthopaedics where he specializes in trauma, limb reconstruction, limb deformity correction, and osteomyelitis (bone infection).

Michael W. Wolfe, MD completed his orthopaedic residency at Tulane and fellowship training in orthopaedic onlcology at Massachusetts General Hospital. After a few years on the faculty at Tulane, he moved back home to Virginia and is currently part of the faculty of Carilion Clinic-Orthopaedics in Roanoke. He serves on the clinical faculty for both the University of Virginia School of Medicine and Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine.
