The VCU Department of Orthopaedic Surgery continues to succeed under the new leadership of Dr. Stephen Kates. Our department was recently ranked #36 in the country in the most recent US News & World Report rankings. This is something we are very proud of and a testament to all the hard work of our 24 attendings and the entire orthopaedic team.
We are also happy to announce the addition of two new staff members:
Paul Perdue, Jr., MD, will be joining our trauma division after completing a fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Paul completed medical school at the University of Maryland and his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at SUNY Downstate.
Alex Vap, MD, will be joining our sports medicine division after completing a fellowship at the prestigious Steadman Clinic. Alex completed medical school at Wake Forest and his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Duke University.
Research continues to be a renewed area of focus within the department. Since April of this year, the faculty have published 17 articles in peer reviewed journals and received an additional Department of Defense grant.
Finally, we would like to welcome the following interns who started with us July 1. We are excited about working with them over the next five years.
Leah Anh, MD – Tufts University School of Medicine
Michael Campbell, MD – Georgetown University School of Medicine
Elizabeth Zielinski, MD – Temple University School of Medicine
Jaharris Collier, MD – Medical College of Georgia
Charles Benfield, MD – Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine
