VCU Wins the Resident Quiz Bowl at the VOS 70th Annual Meeeting.

The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery enjoyed a very successful 70th VOS Annual Meeting held in Charlottesville. Dr. Greg Golladay, along with Christopher Bednarz, won top honors for their poster titled, “Rapidly Progressive Osteoarthritis of the Hip and Intra-Articular Steroid Injections.” We would also like to recognize the team of Ashton Goldman, Paul Crook, and Obi Ugwu-Oju who took home the trophy for the inaugural Resident Quiz Bowl with a thrilling come from behind victory over the University of Virginia. Finally, I am honored to have been elected President of VOS for the upcoming year.

Dr. Torbert

We would like to formally welcome Dr. Jesse Torbert who will be joining our department beginning June 1. Dr. Torbert completed his Orthopaedic Residency at Penn and subsequent trauma fellowship at Shock Trauma. He has served as the Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Chippenham Hospital with OrthoVA and will be serving in the same capacity with our department as we expand our practice into the community.

We are excited that Dr. Michael Blauth, who is the Director of trauma surgery at the Medical University of Innsbruck in Austria, will be joining us this year as our keynote speaker for the VCU Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Resident’s Day, which will be held Friday, June 16. We are looking forward to many excellent research presentations by our residents. We welcome all that would like to join us. Dr. Blauth will also be speaking at the Richmond Orthopaedic Club dinner which will be held the night before.

Finally, we would like to welcome the five interns that will be joining our department beginning July 1. We look forward to working alongside them over the next five years.
