MSV Annual Meeting 2012:Collaborate, Celebrate and Weigh In

There are many reasons why I think you should join us for the Medical Society of Virginia’s (MSV) Annual Meeting in Williamsburg from November 1-4, 2012. More than any of our other events, MSV’s Annual Meeting will help you make connections, influence policy and strengthen your efforts to advocate for your practice and your patients.
Hundreds of physicians attend this meeting every year because this is where the House of Delegates acts on numerous reports and resolutions and establishes policies to guide the society. This is also when MSV elects officers and directors to the MSV Board of Directors and Delegates to the American Medical Association.
This year, MSV created a new, secure comment website at http://engage.msv.org, where members are invited to share their opinions about MSV’s position on various issues and MSV policy, like whether MSV should oppose legislating standards of care or if MSV should support fiscally responsible Medicaid expansion. This site was created to give MSV members the opportunity to agree or disagree on resolutions and share insights on various resolutions that MSV’s reference committees will consider during their deliberations at the Annual Meeting. Please log in today to weigh in on these important issues and be a part of shaping MSV’s future.
The Annual Meeting also brings you together with your peers. There is great potential to learn from each other’s experience and ideas. From several exciting social opportunities to valuable policy meetings and a return of last year’s popular town hall format and CME, MSV will maximize networking and exchange of knowledge for attendees. Sometimes there is no substitute for a face-to-face meeting.
The staff at MSV is working hard to make this year’s educational sessions more rewarding, timely and relevant than ever. With our engaging learning opportunities, MSV will equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to design a payment model that will prepare your practice for the future and help you succeed during uncertain times. The practical, hands-on and unique sessions will improve quality of care and value for your patients. No matter what your interest, specialty or geography, there is much to be gained by participating in our sessions.
Finally, it’s hard to believe that nearly a year has gone by since I was installed as MSV President and it’s almost time for me to pass on the Presidency to Russell Libby, MD, FAAP. Being President has been an incredible privilege, full of many challenges and successes. I look forward to seeing you in Williamsburg next month to celebrate our accomplishments!
Dr. Bryan is an orthopaedic surgeon in practice in Gloucester, Virginia. He is a member of VOS and current president of MSV. He has served on the MSV Board of Directors and has been the vice speaker and the speaker of the MSV House of Delegates.
