Commonwealth Strategy Group
On August 15, VOS hosted EVMS medical students and Navy orthopedic residents for an informal reception where they met with representatives from VOS leadership and Commonwealth Strategy Group, VOS' government relations team. The students heard brief updates about VOS membership as well as federal and state policy issues, such as Medicaid expansion, nurse practitioner independent practice, Certificate of Public Need (COPN) reform, balance/surprise billing and workers' compensation. We shared how important and easy it is to get involved in VOS and the policy advocacy process. We were joined by special guest Delegate Matthew James (D-Portsmouth), who offered his perspective as a legislator in the House of Delegates and answered questions. Del. James sits on the House Health, Welfare and Institutions Committee and the COPN Work Group. He thanked the residents, students and EVMS for their work and service, and encouraged them to contact their legislators to share their medical and healthcare expertise. VOS is grateful to EVMS and Delegate James for a great conversation!
