2018 Orthopaedic Surgery Resident Teaching AwardNicole Deal, MD

Dr. Nicole Deal was awarded the Class of 2018 orthopaedic surgery Resident Teaching Award at the University of Virginia for her devotion to resident education and the practice of orthopaedic surgery.  Dr. Deal is an Associate Professor and Division Head of Hand Surgery at the University of Virginia Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and serves as the Secretary/Treasurer for the VOS.

 

Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon Charles E. Shuff, MD, FAAOS, ABOS Joins Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists

Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists is pleased to announce that orthopaedic spine surgeon, Charles E. Shuff, MD, FAAOS, ABOS has joined the practice. 

Already an accomplished spine surgeon, Dr. Shuff served as the Director of the Cabell-Huntington Spine Center in Huntington, West Virginia where he had dual appointments in the departments of orthopedic surgery and neurosciences at Marshall University. He has also served as an at-large member of the Board of the West Virginia Orthopedic Society.

Dr. Shuff’s practice in Hampton Roads will encompass all aspects of spinal surgery including minimally invasive techniques, surgical care of degenerating cervical and lumbar spine, complex spinal reconstruction for conditions such as scoliosis, kyphosis and spondylolisthesis, and spinal fractures. He will see patients at the AOS Chesapeake and Norfolk offices.

Dr. Shuff was born in Maryland and raised in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.  He completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees at West Virginia University in education and sports medicine. He earned his medical degree at Marshall University Medical School and completed a biomechanics research fellowship and orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals.  Dr. Shuff completed a spine surgery fellowship at prestigious Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

In his spare time, Dr. Shuff enjoys exercising with his wife and children, cooking and playing chess.
