The University of Virginia Residency Program is proud to welcome our new class of interns for 2020:
COVID-19 disrupted the UVA Orthopaedic Residency program as it has everything else. To limit gatherings, our entire didactic schedule was converted to an online platform.
The residency program gets together virtually every morning for daily conference. As a silver lining, we have been able to invite our alumni and national speakers to give talks to our residents. With the restrictions in elective cases and the reductions in outpatient clinics, our residents were in a platoon system through the end of March and all of April. This also served to limit potential exposure.
The governor started allowing elective cases to restart in early May, and our residents are back on the normal schedule. We will be holding graduation for our five chiefs in late June and welcoming the next group of Ortho residents at UVA. Hopefully, things will get back to some semblance of normalcy so we can continue our educational mission.
