The Future is in Our Hands

Dear Colleague,

Hugh Bryant
Hugh M. Bryan III, MD
MSV President

Although 2012 is only half way through, the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) is already developing its 2013 legislative agenda.  The Virginia Orthopaedic Society (VOS) continues to play a valuable role in this process.  At MSV’s Legislative Summit on June 1, VOS asked MSV to consider goals for market-driven workers’ compensation system reforms.  As a fellow orthopedic surgeon, I appreciate your input into MSV’s advocacy work and am proud of what VOS and MSV can accomplish together.

MSV’s Legislative Committee will meet this summer to evaluate the VOS proposal along with the other proposals (such as increased Medicaid reimbursement) that were presented and establish legislative priorities for physicians and the medical community. The committee will make recommendations to the MSV Board of Directors about the legislative initiatives MSV should pursue during the 2013 General Assembly session.

I encourage each of you to attend the Legislative Summit next year and beyond.  The summit and your engagement in MSV gives you an opportunity for your voice to be heard. You can weigh in and show your support or opposition to any of the issues on behalf of yourself or VOS.  We are always so grateful to those physicians who take the time away from their practices to engage and take part in discussions that impact our future.

If you were unable to attend the summit, there are still ways for you to contribute to MSV. Please consider joining us for our Annual Meeting being held in Williamsburg on Nov. 1-4. This is a very special event that helps you make make connections and strengthens your ability to advocate for Virginia physicians and patients. You'll have the opportunity to engage with your peers at various social events and educational sessions. Our staff and speakers have been working on some new ways for you to be involved electronicaly in our Annual meeting and policy decisions, but sometimes there is no substitute for a face-to-face meeting.  Don’t miss this opportunity to influence MSV policy, renew friendships and exchange ideas.

I look forward to seeing all of you in Williamsburg this November!

Regards,
Hugh M. Bryan III, MD
MSV President
