Please join us in welcoming the incoming resident class of 2017!
Jeff Boatright is coming to us from the University of Florida in Gainesville. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, and raised in Waynesboro, Jeff holds both a Bachelors in Biological Sciences and Masters in Biomedical Science. His hobbies include hiking, open water swimming, salt water fishing, shooting, whitewater rafting, and skiing. He is also an avid sports fan. Jeff’s dad is Orthopaedist Kenneth Boatright.
Andrew Bridgforth is graduating with an MD/MPH from the University of Nevada in Reno this May. He is on a Navy deferment for his residency training. Hailing from Beaumont, Texas, Andrew holds a BS in Biology. He writes and speaks Spanish, and his hobbies include golf, hiking, trail running, fly fishing, weight training, cycling and downhill skiing.
Emily Cushnie is home-grown UVA. From grad research started with Dr. Laurencin, she has maintained a steady interest in Ortho since 2003. Taking her undergrad in Chemical Engineering from Villanova, she has been active in Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, and as the co-chair of the UVA Orthopaedics Club. Hobbies include sports, hiking, kayaking, and fishing.
Wojciech Czoch comes to UVA from Penn State. Born in Poland, his family emigrated to the US, where they settled in New York. Wojciech is an undergrad graduate of UVA, where he majored in Biochemistry. He has been active in a number of student led organizations while in medical school and served on the state leadership council in the American College of Physicians. Wojciech is fluent in English and Polish and his hobbies include current events, physics, skiing, and traveling with friends and family.
David Lustenberger is graduating from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus. David has served as OSU’s Orthopaedic Interest Group’s Coordinator, a College of Medicine Admissions Committee student interviewer, an Orientation Coordinator for Medical Student Orientation, a volunteer rowing coach to local high school students, and a volunteer to the Medserve Children’s Ministry. He has 3 peer-reviewed journal articles and his hobbies include rowing, camping, hiking and backpacking. He is a recreational bicyclist and kayaker, and enjoys playing cards and board games. He is interested in American History and English Literature.

What’s New at VCU?

The end of June is a time for goodbyes to graduating chief residents and hellos to incoming interns. At the Department of Orthopaedics at VCUHS, all five chiefs are moving on to fellowship training. Dr. John Arnold will be doing a sports fellowship at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, GA; Drs. Kerry Loveland and Brian Deignan are both doing pediatrics at DuPont in Wilmington, DE; Dr. Brian Swinteck is doing adult reconstruction at Rush in Chicago, Il; and Dr. Lawrence Huff is doing shoulder and elbow at the Center for Orthopaedic Research and Education in Phoenix, AZ. Meanwhile, we are excited to welcome five excellent new physicians as interns. Dr. Ashton Goldman is a graduate of MCV, Drs. Brian Toney and Dr. John McMurtry are both graduates of UVA, Dr. Jacob Riis is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, while Dr. Chesley Durgin completed medical school at the University of Florida.
