Dear VOS members,

Please click here to read the letter from AAOS President David D. Teuscher, MD regarding State Society memberships. We thank each of you for your Society participation. We have sent a version of this letter to all NON society Orthopaedists. If you know anyone in your area who may not be a member, please discuss the value of what we do and encourage their participation.

Thank You.

Dr. Gibson Receives Virginia Orthopaedic Society Career Award

Hampton Roads area physician recognized for major contributions in the field of orthopedics

Dr. Gibson receives career award

Dr. Wilford K. Gibson, MD, FACS, FAAOS (right), of Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists (AOS) was honored with the Virginia Orthopaedic Society (VOS) Career Award at the society’s 2015 annual meeting last. The prestigious award is bestowed upon an orthopaedic surgeon who the VOS Board of Directors believes has made a significant contribution to those practicing in the field of orthopaedics, while also recognizing noteworthy achievements over a career of service to patients in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The award to Dr. Gibson signified his “enduring support of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society in its efforts to represent orthopaedic surgeons throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia,” said Dr. Mark Romness, MD, the immediate past president of the VOS. Dr. Romness presented the award at the society’s annual meeting at the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia, in April.

Fellowship trained in Sports Medicine, Dr. Gibson practices at AOS in Norfolk, where he focuses on injuries or conditions of the hip, knee and shoulder, providing reconstruction and replacement surgery.  He also serves as a team physician for Old Dominion University’s athletic programs.

The Virginia Beach resident is active in the leadership of both the VOS and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has a special interest in minimally invasive joint replacement and preservation, including the popular direct anterior hip replacement, or “jiffy hip.”
Dr. Gibson is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in Orthopaedic Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.

This program is a great deal for your group because you receive discounts on membership dues for all eligible physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in your practice. New members receive a 25% discount on their first year of membership dues, and all current members receive a 10% discount on dues. There is one comprehensive renewal notice for all members in your practice or institution, requiring only one check for membership dues to be issued. There must be at least three eligible physicians, PAs or NPs in your practice.

If a physician leaves the practice and moves out of state, the VOS membership will be transferable to a new physician in the group. Any new members will immediately begin receiving benefits such as the e-newsletter, legislative updates, reduced registration fees at meetings, the online "Find a Doc" feature, and much more.

We will screen the list of physicians in your practice so that any members in your group who have already paid will not have to pay again this cycle.  It’s not too late to add your practice to the growing list and save on VOS membership dues!  Please contact Greg Leasure, Membership Manager, at (804) 565-6305 or vosmembership@societyhq.com with questions or to enroll in the Group Billing program.

Thank you for considering membership in the Virginia Orthopaedic Society for the physicians in your practice!
