MSV Update

(RE)Member – (RE)charge. (RE)fresh. (RE)new

MSV Annual Meeting

This year’s Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) Annual Meeting from October 22 - 25 at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly will be unlike any event held by us before. With a theme of: (RE)Member – (RE)charge. (RE)fresh. (RE)new, we will provide opportunities to help you feel renewed energy for your work as well as activities encouraged to promote work-life balance and professional satisfaction. We appreciate our members and understand the things you face in your profession and are here to keep moving you forward so you can succeed.

This year’s Annual Meeting will still provide ample opportunity to network with colleagues and share the future of healthcare in the commonwealth—but along with the usual activities, we are adding a keynote speaker, an educational session that is being provided in partnership with the Psychiatric Society of Virginia, open forums and much more.

NEW THIS YEAR!
For the first time, we’re inviting medical practice management and personnel to our Annual Meeting. These key business leaders will join us at some of our events to join us in networking and building stronger relationships.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
MSV is currently seeking sponsors for the Annual Meeting. If your organization wants to reach our members, please consider booking a premier sponsorship to promote to physicians from across the state and from multiple specialties. Our sponsorship packages vary in offerings but all provide added visibility. Contact Lynne Hughes at 804-377-1047 or lhughes@msv.org for additional information.

Look out for additional information about our Annual Meeting in coming months. We look forward to seeing you in October!

New MSV EVP reflects: The first 100 days

Melina Davis-MartinBy Melina Davis-Martin
Executive Vice President of the Medical Society of Virginia.

Every day, I look at my calendar and have no idea what to expect. I could be driving out to any area in Virginia to meet with a board member one-on-one, heading to a local or specialty society meeting, representing the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) at an event or summit, meeting with various departments or fitting in everything I just mentioned into a single day. I fit in as many different appointments into my calendar so I can get to know as many of you as possible—and I love it.

Based on what I’ve seen and heard, I’ve been so impressed with what I’ve learned so far from MSV’s physician leaders. I’ve learned that MSV is a strong organization with dedicated members who are truly passionate about what they do: advance the health of their patients and navigate through the challenges to high quality care.

Although the purpose of the physician profession seems clear, it isn’t always the case. There are several complications that arise that make it harder for you to focus on practicing medicine. MSV is here to help you; it has always been here for that purpose. Now is the time, however, for MSV to take a deeper dive into how to help and to be more strategic about the benefits we provide our members.

In the coming year, we hope to best utilize our supporting organizations, MSV Foundation, MSV Political Action Committee and MSV Insurance Agency—each with their own unique programs and impact—to further strengthen our efforts to support Virginia physicians. We will use their individual offerings to contribute to the value of MSV. I appreciate all feedback, so if you have any, please contact me at mdavis-martin@msv.org.

I’ve been at MSV for about 100 days now, and I know we still have a lot of work ahead of us. I encourage you to join us as we look forward to help strengthen MSV, its members and employees. I’m thrilled at the possibilities this upcoming year brings, and I believe this is an exciting time for all of us. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to talk with you.

Melina Davis-Martin is the Executive Vice President of the Medical Society of Virginia.
