Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission: Resources for Understanding the Medical Fee Schedule
The Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission established the Medical Fee Services Department last year to assist the Commission on implementation of the statutory fee schedule that became effective January 1, 2018. The department staff will establish and maintain medical fee schedule information and quality standards. It will also provide direction, training and information to the public on the medical fee schedule and related requirements. By facilitating understanding of the medical fee schedule, the department’s aim is to ensure the medical fee schedules are properly executed, monitored, and maintained. The Medical Fee Services Department will respond to health care providers, employers, insurance companies, and third party administrators’ medical fee schedule inquiries. Virginia implemented a Medical Fee Schedule (MFS) on January 1, 2018. This was authorized by law and now governs reimbursements for medical care and services provided to patients covered by workers' compensation insurance.
