VOS 71st ANNUAL MEETING RECAP!

On behalf of the program committee, Brian and I wanted to congratulate all the speakers, participants, guests and sponsors that attended the 71st Annual Meeting for a job well done. The picturesque Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia was a phenomenal venue. The meeting was a huge success with a record number of attendees. We also had the greatest number of poster presentations for the VOS Annual Meeting with over 80 from around the state. Tremendous work by all!

All attendees had the pleasure of hearing from our two keynote speakers; Dr. Robert G. Marx from Hospital of Special Surgery and Dr. William L. Griffin from OrthoCarolina. Dr. Marx gave us an amazing talk about the balance of implementing innovation with well supported research. Dr. Griffin reviewed his experiences with revision total hip arthroplasty over the past three decades. Both lectures were tremendous and all attendees thoroughly enjoyed.

The focus of the meeting explored various current areas of interest applicable to surgeons across the state of Virginia in general practice with specific attention to sports medicine and adult reconstruction. These included a light hearted debate regarding uni-compartmental knee replacement verses high tibial osteotomy. Other topics included pediatric sports injuries and an update on orthopaedic infection management.

The 2nd Annual Resident Quiz Bowl saw a heated competition between residents representing the Naval Training Program in Portsmouth, the University of Virginia, and Virginia Commonwealth University. The final outcome hung in the balance to the very end with UVA capturing the title from VCU.

Please make plans to attend next year's 72nd Annual Meeting at The Intercontinental at the Wharf in Washington, DC, May 3-5, 2019. Once again, we thank all the participants and sponsors for their effort and support of this year’s meeting. It is always our goal to bring the best of what Virginia orthopaedists have to offer to our membership and beyond.
