AAOS Board of Councilors Report

By John W. Mann, III, MD
VOS BOC Representative

AAOS logoThe VOS was represented at the Fall Board of Councilors Meeting in San Antonio October 24 - 26 by Mark Romness, MD and myself with longtime standard bearer Wilford Gibson, MD, now on the AAOS Advocacy Committee.

Due to the efforts of prior councilors Mark Romness, MD and Doug Boardman, MD, and behind the scenes efforts of Wilford Gibson, the VOS procured grants of $3,000 for our website update and a minimum of $10,000 for our campaign for COPN reform.

The proposal for E and M simplification to consolidate outpatient codes from five to two will likely be delayed for further study of how it will affect CPT codes and global period office visits, and the possibility of adding an additional code for more complex visits.

There was much discussion regarding the addition of Total Knee Replacement to the outpatient list.  Due to negotiations by AAOS, no other total joint procedures will be added to this list until a smoother implementation process has been accomplished.

Finally, the VOS Opioid patient education pamphlet, authored by Dr. TK Miller, was applauded and adopted by several state societies.
