Legislator of the Year Award Presented to Senator Spruill

Legislator of the Year

Pictured at right is Dr. Wilford Gibson presenting Senator Lionell Spruill with VOS’s 2018 Legislator of the Year award on October 8th. Dr. Gibson provided the following remarks to an audience that included hundreds of Senator Spruill's constituents and supporters as well as Senator Tim Kaine.

"The Senator has always been a champion for patients in Virginia. In addition to being a staunch supporter of Medicaid expansion, he is also a leader on the urgent need for Certificate of Public Need reform. He understands how COPN reform will increase access and reduce healthcare costs to his constituents and patients throughout Virginia. Senator Spruill was one of a few members of his party to support this effort and carried legislation this past session that would’ve directly benefited patients in the Tidewater region. As you know, Senator Spruill does not care about the politics of an issue. He simply does what he believes is right and what is best for his constituents. The Virginia Orthopaedic Society greatly appreciates this and commends you for your leadership on this issue. Senator Spruill, we appreciate your service to the Commonwealth and we thank you for being our advocate. It is my privilege to present you with the 2018 Virginia Orthopaedic Society Legislator of the Year award."
